Blue and Green

Such a pretty, happy, space.

My favorite combination of colors are blue and green.  God made the sky and oceans blue and the hills and trees green, so what could look better together than those things?  I like the muted tones and the intense ones, pattern and plain as long as it is blue and green!
At Home
I am a sucker for bamboo furniture: so very British Colonial.  The soft sky blue is a perfect backdrop for yards and yards of blue and green floral linen.

I love everything about this!

I see this as a buffet in a smallish dining-room (not sure if I am right, though).  Whatever it is, it is so pretty.  That bird wallpaper is lovely with the green beaded board.

A range of blues, from peacock to pale spa blue are artfully combined with blue green walls.  I think the mix of patterns on the pillow makes it successful as a casual family space.

This is a very neutral, light, dining room but with the addition of the dramatic turquoise and lime chandelier there is more of a feeling of color with the accents.

I just love the green piping on the white love seat with the backdrop of pale blue.  Modern and fresh.
Gorgeous Gingham ...

Tons of gingham and stripes in different shades of blue and green keep this room from feeling stuffy.

I know, more bird wallpaper, but there is nothing better than bringing the outdoors in.  That is what the colors blue and green do best as well.

Jade green walls and blue subway tile are simple and spa-like.

You have to look close, but this is one of my favorite ways to do blue and green:  pale green walls with a touch of brown and distressed blue furniture.

This is such a gorgeous formal dining room!  There is that perfect shade of blue on the walls again.  It never gets old.  The curtains and parson chair upholstery are mostly green with a touch of whine (which picks up the wood tone on the chair legs and table), cream and blue.

Such a punchy green on the fire surround!
Things That Inspire

An antique moss- green settee melds with the gold on the frames.  Just like white, Grey- blue walls don't define space, they defy it.

In this bedroom deep grey walls play up the softness of the blue lamps, headboard, chair and bench cover (notice how the blues draw your eye around the room).

Pattern is key here:  the traditional damask sofa has those fun olive and turquoise tones so popular in the 50's, but you would never think of that era looking at this room.  Why?  Because the over scale patterned wall-paper is modern and the embroidered curtains add a third pattern to the mix. It feels opulent but young and stylish.
Country Living

This room screams Northwestern Lake house.  Shades of blue and green in stripes and check mix well with varying wood tones.

This lux dining room has it all!  Mirrored console, and formal table along with the playful butterfly wallpaper in tones of aqua and apple green.  It would shimmer at night.
Another dining room by Sarah Richardson.  It has the same grand, feminine feel as the one above.  Green lattice fabric on the front and cushion of the shield back chairs are a clever play on the loose lattice wall paper.  A few hits of raspberry on the backs of the chair, stripe in the curtains and painting are a gorgeous contrast to all the blues and greens.

A non-traditional little girl's room done in, what else?  Blue and green with a hit of yellow.  Still feminine.

I had to include pictures of my all-time favorite Sarah Richardson house, her cottage.  Almost the whole house is done in blue and green...heavenly.  As a side note,  I have always liked the idea of a four chair grouping instead of a traditional sofa...it just makes sense in so many spaces.

The amazing kitchen!  I like how the peninsula is shades of blue and the other run of cabinets are green.  It works because it is repeated throughout the whole space.

The dining room space (it is all apart of one great room) is one of my favorites!  That blue-green bench on the right side is perfect because it has a back on it--far more comfortable.  The wing chairs have a lovely mix of fabrics and the banker chairs are a grey blue.  It is like a quilt of colors and styles here.

In one guest room Sarah found this old window she turned into a mirror above a country blue chest.  I like the intensity of color against the tongue and groove pine.

My own house is a mix of blues and greens along with a healthy dose of white.  I don't think I will ever tire of it.
