My three week vacation came to an end yesterday, after a weekend spent in Vegas. My favorite part of the trip, besides the down bedding and ridiculously long massage, was the food. There really is a lot of great food to be had in that town. The only bad part was that there just wasn't enough time to eat everywhere I wanted; we had to skip brunch at Bouchon (though I did get my macarons) and I didn't get to try the frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity. Oh well. Next time.
I came across this beautiful room on Pinterest. It reminds me of Paris, although that might just be because I've had Paris on the brain lately. My parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and my Dad was going to take my Mom to London and Paris, and the Cat and I were going to tag along. Unfortunately, that trip was canceled before it even got planned, but I still have Paris on the brain!

The Cat and I are still on vacation, so Netflix has been one of our best friends lately. French culture (namely Paris, naturellement) has cropped up in a couple of the movies we have been watching. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that, for the most part at least, they take place in Paris?! I don't know... could be. Midnight in Paris, French Kiss, Hugo, An American in Paris, and in a roundabout way, Alex & Emma. This weekend the Cat and I are going to go see a French film called The Intouchables. It looks so good, and it is based on a true story.
Anyway.
Even though I thought Midnight in Paris ended rather abruptly, it reminded me of how special Paris in the twenties must have been, with so many talented people running around. Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Stein, Picasso, Dali, Eliot, the list goes on. Ah.Maze.Ing.
So now I am itching to read Hemingway's A Moveable Feast. And maybe make some croque monsieurs for lunch. Also, I want to read Gertrude Stein's The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas. And I want to go back to Paris and stay there for longer than a day. In the meantime, I will have to live vicariously through the novels I mentioned and more movies like I've been watching. (Les Mis is on my list too.) Oh, and through these French inspired images.
If I ever get back to Paris, I would love to visit the Shakespeare and Company bookstore.
