Freaky Find Friday: Easter Errors

kkcb
We really aren't trying to be mean.  Really.  It's just that we all need a laugh now and again and there are so many laughs to be had when treasure hunting in stores or on the internet.  When I was looking for Easter ideas online recently a few images jumped out at me.  I thought I would share them with you.  The above image is a huge bail of hay.  That's not all:  I guess someone got imaginative.  I think there has been a bit of spray-painting involved.  Perhaps a few delinquent farm kids decided to deface this innocent bale.  I'm not sure what the "carrot" is made from, or the ears (that look like huge slices of like bacon).  A bit strange, in any case.
ibtimes
Okay, this rabbit looks like it might be a feature of a spring parade.  I don't think I need to say much about how frightening this thing is.  Pretty self-explanatory.  The look on this rabbit's face is completely psycho.  Honestly, it's more Hare in Alice in Wonderland than Easter bunny.  He must be a little near-sighted as well since he is holding that egg as far away as possible.
partycraftsecrets
I just can't figure this one out.  It is a fancy mess:  Plastic, beads, glitter, garland and feathers.  Nothing says "Easter" like the makings of a Vegas showgirl costume.

I'm not sure the words to "Easter Parade" sung by Bing Crosby in Holiday Inn went ..."In your Easter bonnet, with all the weeds upon it...you'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade."  But if they did, this hat would be perfect.
Well, it is a cold rainy Friday here but I'm looking on the bright side:  It will be a prettier spring because of it!

Freaky Find Friday: Earrings

Each week, Rebecca and I like to share some of our strange/freaky/bizarre/funny finds with you.  It never ceases to amaze us how many odd things are out there!

Do you wear earrings?  My ears have been pierced off and on since I was in about the 2nd grade.  I used to wear earrings all the time.  Now I hardly ever remember to put any in.  My ears are sensitive, I can only wear certain metals, blah, blah, blah.
But.
I cam across these babies featured in this post, and I just know my attitude towards earrings is going to change.  Drastically.
If I had earrings like this, I would never take them out.  I would be hard pressed to stop gazing at them in any kind of reflective surface.  I may even consider buying all my friends their own just so I can see them even more.

Like what you see?  Two little plastic babies hanging from a tree?
Don't worry- they are still available here, and apparently, they
swing beautifully when you move.

Here's another option in case the nudity of the first pair bothered you.
Because I know that's the only thing really stopping you.
Only $12.99!

Did you miss Mardi Gras?  With these earrings, everyday will be like a
party!
Get 'em here.

Not feeling up to sporting a whole doll on your head?
How about just a hand, then?

I think these are the worst of the bunch.
But, if you really like them, you can get them here.

Hope you enjoyed my freaky finds of the week.  (And did you like what I did up there, with the "I'd wear these babies all the time" bit?  I crack myself up.)
I hope you all have a lovely weekend, and I'll see you on Sunday with a quick and easy recipe for biscotti.

Happy Friday!

Freaky Find Friday: Don't Be Nosy

Rebecca and I do a lot of shopping, whether we have money or not.  We window shop.  We browse.  We sometimes buy.  We do this in malls, boutiques, thrift stores, even online.  You name it, we like to at least look around.  Because of this, we often find lots of great deals (like the $4 dress I score last weekend).  We often find inspiration, both for our wardrobes and our homes.  And we often find crap.
It's true.  (It's a little ineloquent, I grant you, but it's true!)
So, for today's Freaky Friday Find, I'd like to present to you custom pet necklaces.   No, no, it's not something like a cute little locket with a picture of your pooch inside.  This is far more personal- it's your pet's nose.  On a necklace.  Around your neck.  Call me crazy, but I think this is just a little bit creepy.

If you love it, you could have gotten it here:
Uncommon Goods
Don't want to wear a nose around your neck?
Custom belt buckles are also available.
I guess a lot of bigger sized dogs do nose around the crotch area,
so this seems normal, right?
Only $499.99!

Now, don't get me wrong; I'm all for cute little puppy noses (when they're on the puppies). Maybe if I had an adorable little mini something-or-other then I'd be on board. I do have a dog, in case your wondering, but she's the kind of dog who ate my beautiful leather jacket. I don't want to wear her nose around my neck! And I love my cat, too, but wearing her nose? Not so much. What do you think? Do you have a furry little friend whose sniffer you'd like to wear as a charm?

Freaky Find Friday: Valentine's Surprise

Valentines Day Heart Jewelry Anatomical Heart Necklace Antique Silver Anatomical Heart on 32" Gunmetal Chain
I recently searched "Valentine" on etsy.com and up popped a variety of items:  Some where quite adorable and funny-sweet, while others where, well, interesting... Call me old fashioned but I just don't think an anatomical heart on a chain is romantic.  Is there something I am missing here?  Unless you are Minnie Driver in the movie Return to Me, this necklace charm couldn't be relevant.  It reminds me of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
3 Police Gun Soap - valentines gift for man, pistol soap
This one is a mystery to me.  Remember that I searched "Valentine" when I came across these gun soaps.  Can you even imagine going into a friend's guest bathroom and finding these by the sink?  Scary.

Honestly, I have no words.  Would I hang this from my rear view mirror?  Very Miss Piggy.

Hope these gave you a good laugh.  Happy Friday!

Freaky Find Friday: Creepy Collage

A good way to keep track of memories is to make a collage.  The Cat and I keep a memory jar in which we drop mementos from trips and other events.  Eventually I would like to maybe put some of those mementos in a frame or something like a shadow box.  What I don't want is for it to look like this beauty that I found at the local thrift shop recently.

Sorry for the glare; I couldn't get a better picture.  So, what makes a good collage?  Well, according to this picture, you need a pair of gloves, some random bits of lace, an envelope, a strand of fake pearls, and a random picture of a creepy looking baby.

Awww, just look at that little guy.  Bewildered look, bulging diaper that really looks like it needs changing...  Just the stuff memories should be made of.  What I wonder is where, exactly, would one hang this little treasure?!
Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Freaky Find Friday: How About a Hugga Bunch?

When I think of freaky, I think of Hugga Bunch.  You may not remember these creepy dolls from the eighties; I barely do.  What I do remember is a couple of squishy looking pink and blue haired dolls walking over a bridge.  There was a movie that I saw at some point in my life, and that is the scene that has stuck with me all these years.  Enter the internet, and youtube, and some crazy person who felt it necessary to upload the Hugga Bunch movie so that I could torture my own child with it all these years later.
image via Ghost of the Doll
In my mind, I always conflate these dolls with some creature thing from another eighties movie called House.
This movie short from Everything is Terrible kind of combines the two into 3 fabulously freaky minutes.  The Cat and I were cracking up as we were watching this, but maybe that's just us.

On an unrelated note, can you believe Christmas is just around the corner?  My students have to say goodbye to our Elf on the Shelf today, as it is finally our last day of school before vacation.  That has been a lot of fun, seeing where he winds up after a night left all alone in our classroom.  The kids have gotten a kick out of him (his name is Romeo and he has been a bit naughty), so it'll be sad to see him go.
Anyway, I hope you got a  kick out of today's freaky find, and I hope you have a great weekend!

Freaky Find Friday: Creepy Christmas

Christmas is around the corner and I have been busy getting ready for my own Christmas party this evening.  Lori was a doll and found some scary/creepy/crazy and yes, freaky, Christmas images for me to share with you.  Christmas is such a popular holiday and it definitely inspires the best and worst from people.  Let me demonstrate some of the worst...
How about this jolly little elf? He has rosy cheeks and pointed ears.  I'm sure his eyes were meant  to be described as "bright" but all I can see is the Millenium Falcon switching to light speed.  Also, his tongue is just a little too red.  Vampire red.  This thing is just frightening!

And this little bundle of yuletide joy?  How can Andre the giant be an elf?  Its face looks like a huge walnut.  Who thought this would be cute?
image via
Here is the best for last.  What would you think if you got this in the mail?  Those are some scary human-esque pig faces.  Christmas really does bring out a little too much creativity in some.

I can't wait for my party tonight!  I just love to entertain.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Freaky Find Friday: White Elephant Christmas

White Elephant Christma

T shirt / Faux Jeans Lounge Pants / Wallet / Art Glass Bird / Butterflies Reversible Quilted Jacket Matching Tote / Red Shoe Ring Holder / Dachsie with Moxie / Finger Nose Hair Trimmer

I thought it would be fun to do this Friday's Freaky Find holiday style.  All of the fantabulous items you see before you are from Paragon.  Maybe you have that special someone (a lonely aunt?  a deranged neighbor?) on your list who would actually like to receive a cat face purse and cat covered shirt.  Maybe they would love to pair those items with the "faux jeans lounge pants" (complete with fake shredded detailing) and that gorgeous (reversible) quilted jacket.  It does seem rather exotic, what with its obvious nod to the Orient.  And who doesn't need a glittery red shoe a'la   Dorothy for storing and showing off their favorite rings?
But what about the men in your life, you ask?  Well, don't worry- we here at DGV have you covered- the faux jeans are fo everyone, and what crazy old Uncle couldn't use a good nose hair trimmer?  Why not put a little bit of fun in his life and give him a valid excuse to stick his finger up his nose?!
For the dog lover in your life I offer this sassy little dachshund.  She knows where the parties at- she's dressed and ready for anything!
Last but not least, for those on your list who love to hear the warble of the blue jay, why not get them a lovely little glass blown bird with unnaturally spindly, long legs?  He's the Frankenstein of the aviary world.
I hope you've enjoyed my little list of Freaky Finds for the week.  Enjoy your Saturday!

Freaky Find Friday

Hello, all.  I hope everyone (who celebrates) had a fantastic Thanksgiving.  So, how many of you take advantage and brave the crazy crowds for Black Friday?  I have to be honest- I have never been a huge Black Friday type gal.  I prefer to wait for the after Christmas sales.  Especially the one at Dillard's.  That's my favorite, though I always almost miss it somehow.   But anyway.  I digress.  Some people can get a little crazy during the Black Friday sales, so I would rather stay home, sleep in, and snatch up some deals via cyberspace.

My freaky find for this Friday comes from Anthropologie.  Now, don't get me wrong; I love me some Anthropologie (as evidenced here, here, and here).  I just can't get behind these boots.

If you see something I don't, you can get them here.

I just...  I don't know.  I can't get on board with these.  They freak me out.  They remind me of socks with sandals.  So what do you think?  Avant-garde or avant-gross?  Either way, have a great weekend!

Day 23~   I am thankful that I got to spend some time with my Grandfather on Thanksgiving, and that I have the whole weekend to start decorating the house for Christmas.

Freaky Find Friday

I know Halloween is over, but the freakishly creepy things just continue to pop up all around me!  I wish they wouldn't because my neck needs a break from all the double takes.  But really, wouldn't you be sad if we couldn't show you all these horrible shopping encounters?
I say encounter for a reason.  As an example, take a gander at this 3ft doll:  She was peering around the corner at me as if to say "I saw you first and, yeah, just because I don't have my poles and skis I can still catch you."  Doesn't she look as though she was meant to be slaloming down a mountain?  I have a question though: I think she is supposed to be a little Inuit, but where in Northern Alaska or the Arctic do they raise cows?  That is a cow print coat, is it not?  Not only that, but her fringe of dark hair looks as though she went at it with a plastic knife.

Nevertheless, happy Friday everyone!

Day:16 I am so grateful that Thanksgiving break starts today and that I have my family all to myself for 9 whole days.  I am graeful for the rain that we so desperately need and for good books to read during.

Freaky Find Friday

Day 9~
I am thankful that I have a great extended family, and that I grew up with cousins who are more like siblings. Even though we are separated by miles and in some cases states, I know they'd be there for me in a heartbeat if I ever needed anything.

Now for my freaky find.  This is another little lady I found at the Salvation Army.  What is it with people wanting creepy little statues?

Oh, look, she is missing a sock and her abnormally large foot is on display for everyone to see.  How sweet?!  And don't forget that little bear, with the somewhat evil, demonic grin staring out at you as if to say, "Come at me, bro."

Have a great Friday; this creepy baby demands it.

Freaky Find Friday: Feline Faux Paux

My friend Alison moved away (blast the US Air Force!) but she sent me this little beauty as a gift--the picture, not the actual 'thing'--
She said that she was out antiquing and turned a corner only to be greeted by... this!  I know I have featured a lot of taxidermy on these Friday posts, but can you not see why?  Just look at this poor thing!  Its eyes are crossed and its right arm and paw are swiping in the wrong direction.  I don't think I have ever seen a mouth expression like this on anything since I watched the rats in The Secret of Nimh as a kid.  Who gnawed on the poor things ears?  Truly.  I don't know whether to laugh or cry.  All I can say is that, for $30, the piece of wood it is mounted on had better be exotic.  Can you guess where my friend now lives?  Miss you Ali!

Anyway,  hope you have a happy Friday despite this very pathetic freaky find.

And as Lori says, you're welcome!

Freaky Find Friday

Last weekend my Mom watched the Cat so I could run to the Salvation Army and look around for some treasures.  When I got there, I was happy to see that they were having a sale:  all clothes and knick knacks were 50% off and furniture was 25% off.  I am happy to say that I found some pretty good bargains, including a vintage coat for about $4 and a cookie jar for under 2 bucks.  I spent about $17 and came away with a ton of stuff.  I got a gorgeous navy blue wool blazer with little pins on it that tell me it probably came from a Catholic school.  It's a kid sized blazer, yes, but a big kid, so it fits.

I always make sure to take a look at the furniture and lamps, because you never know what you're going to find, and on this particular day, I struck gold with this beautiful specimen...

Now, who doesn't want the bust of some unknown man in their home?  I am assuming this is a Spanish explorer, possibly Cabrillo by the looks of his helmet.
image via
So handsome, so austere.  What's that you say?  You simply don't have the room for a rather large bust of a Spanish explorer, even if he has been commemorated on a stamp?  Well, fear not, my friend.  This bust, nay, this art, does double duty...

Cabrillo lamp

as a lamp.  So not only can his surly, determined, no-nonsense expression light up your life, it can also light up your living room.

You're Welcome!

Freaky Find Friday

It's Friday (hooray!) and that means it's time for another round of Freaky Finds!  Today's freaky finds are brought to you by the letter C, as in CREEPY!

First up is a lovely little find I made awhile back at one of our favorite local antique stores, The Barn.

This is not one piece for sale; they are two random items that someone thought would look better coupled together.  The mannequin head sports a very nice, long mustache/beard combination, which you can just make out behind the edge of the "Teddy Bears Ride Free" box.  Now, I am not sure what the exact message here is, what with putting a mustached head into a box that proclaims there are "free rides" available... Interesting.

Next up is a beauty of a doll, found on etsy.  This giant Chalkware Kewpie doll has been restored to its former painted, clothed, hair-done glory, minus the eyes, which apparently are original to the doll.

available at flapper dashery

Can you imagine being surrounded by all those dolls?  Like I said, the store owner restored the doll except for the eyes, which are original.  Do me a favor, okay?  Don't stare for too long into the doll's eyes.  I am not sure what will happen to you.  I think maybe this Kewpie is staring into the open pits of hell, and devising a plan to drag you there.  But that's just what I think, and I could be wrong.

Okay... So here she is, in all her, um, glory.  What's up with the weird rash on her hands, tummy, knees and toes?  Looking in the background, all those kewpies seem to have red knees.  It's a little odd, I'm just saying...

Here's another head for you...
Custom order yours today from Whack
This is actually maybe a little more funny than freaky.  This etsy company, Whack, will custom make you a pinata head from a photo you send them.  Hate your boss?  Bash their head in!  Your child is having a party?  Why not have a pinata created in their likeness and then invite their friends to beat it to a pulp and collect the candy that drops from the wreckage?
The creators of the pinatas are a husband and wife team located in Southern California.  As far as pinatas go, they have some pretty cute ones.

Freaky Find Friday: Catostrophe

On a wonderful weekend away in Solvang, I came across a store window that stopped me cold.  Well, because you can clearly see the pictures above and below these words I realize you are not holding your breath to know what I saw that made me stop so abruptly that I almost dropped my mango smoothie.  Proudly hung in this store window was a shirt.  A button down shirt of 100% silk ( those silk worms were robbed).  In the watery moonlit waves printed on this shirt drifts a boat with a house cat the size of a St. Bernard.  This mammoth felis catus seems to be napping after having tea with the "lady" to his left.  This lady is not from Shallot it seems but maybe a Siren right out of the Odyssey?  Maybe this scene is more in keeping with The Metamorphosis since the lady's hair is the same color as the cat's fur:  Is she in fact-- Cat Woman?
The only conclusion I can realistically come to is that this sad, freakishly large, kitty has run away from home on a quest for the Isle of Misfits but a Siren from Anthemoessa has lured it--note the evil gleam in her eyes-- into letting her board with her tea which smells of cat nip and cream but is in fact...spiked!   Large kitty has been poisoned like Edmund with turkish delight in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.  Kitty will now turn into a manic and devour all the good little toys on the island.  Such a sad story.  Such an awful shirt.

All I know for sure is that this shirt makes me really uncomfortable.

Happy Friday!

Freaky Find Friday

I have been spending a little more time than usual over on etsy lately, and while hunting around for various goodies, I stumbled across a little gem.

Now, it is no secret that Rebecca and I both like equestrian related fashion and housewares, so it should come as no surprise that the following piece presented itself to me.  Was it fate?  Kismet?  A carefully programmed searchable database?  It doesn't matter, people.  It found me, and my life will never be the same.

Let me continue by saying that horses are majestic, beautiful creatures, are they not?  It is no wonder that they inspire the dreams of so many young girls and boys alike.  It is no wonder that the fashion world continually circles back to equine related trends.

image via
I mean, come on!  How beautiful is that animal?!  So it is really no wonder that artists of all mediums seek to recreate that kind of majestic beauty.   For centuries, horses have been recreated as toys for children, perhaps most notably as rocking horses.

available for the low, low price of $7,600.00 on amazon

This beauty was created by the Stevenson Brothers as a limited edition for the Queen's "Golden Jubilee."  It was inspired by two rocking horses in Queen Victoria's collection.

My find for today is a very, shall we say, creepy unique take on that popular classic.

from Diamond Dust Taxidermy

So what do you think?  Perfect for that new nursery, ay?

Apparently, this was made for a college class.  Bestiality 101?  I'm not sure.  Anyway, happy Friday!
