Wow.  well, Pinterest finally did it. They switched me over to the new set up.  I don't know about you all, but I am not a fan.  I guess I don't mind the new look so much (what, exactly, was wrong with the old one?!), but the one thing I really don't like (really, really don't like) is the way the pin embeds on the blog.  That stupid little pin it button that automatically shows up in the corner of the picture you embed is awfully annoying. Sometimes it even gets in the way of the picture.  I've noticed that a couple of times on other blogs that I've looked at through the link up in The Vintage Apple.  A couple of times it has made it so that you can't read the pin.  Annoying.  I wish they'd change it back to normal.
Now, hold on a second as I step down off of my soapbox.

Summer Building Project: Pretty Little Garden Shed

While most people I know have been off having relaxing vacations we decided that we would rather spend our days building a shed.  That's right, a shed.  But not just any old storage shed, a pretty and functional little outbuilding.  My dad was sweet enough to want to do this with us and I am so excited.  This little projects means a far more organized home for us.  We will use it to store all the gardening implements, riding lawnmower and even Christmas decorations can be stored in the rafters.  Our garage can be de-cluttered and perhaps we can fit 2 cars in the 2 car garage now!  I know, I know, it doesn't seem like all that much to be excited about but hey, when vacation comes close to an end we will have one big project completed...and then we will be off to the beach for 5 days to celebrate.  Not a bad deal.

 You can see where the barn door will go (blue of course) and spots for two windows.  We obviously have a lot still to do but you can imagine it with all the trim and furring strips in place, painted white with a red roof (to match our house).

 I have plans for landscape around our little shed at some point.

 I bought these two salvaged windows for the shed before we started to build.  They are the perfect way to add charm and character to a project like this and they saved us money.

Just look at the detail! I love the quilt-like quality of the piece; I love the vibrant colors and patterns artist Bianca Green used. I'm thinking this piece definitely deserves a place on my gallery wall. Now I just need to decide what size!

How cute is this "Let's All Go and Have Breakfast" print?!  I think it would be so cute hanging in a kitchen. Of course, every time I look at the title of this print, I get the old movie concession stand song stuck in my head.

Inspiration: Teal and Turquoise

Since Lori bought her beautiful sectional at Macy's, I've been looking for one myself.  I found one that I really love, on sale, but it is teal.  I never thought I would have a sofa that wasn't white but good luck finding the right scale sectional with a white slipcover (the only way to do white furniture with children).  I have all shades of blues in my living room so it would fit in perfectly. My concern:  Would I get tired of it?  Would it look dated after a few years?  Or would it just look bold and stylish like I'm hoping?  Here are a few beautiful teal and turquoise room inspirations I've been looking at to persuade myself:

Organization is Key

I don't know about you, but I have a lot of clothes.  A lot.  I have a hard time getting rid of things.  It seems that almost every time I do, not too soon after, I need at least one of the things I threw out (or gave away, which is what I usually do with my stuff).  Oh, don't get me wrong; I still go through my things periodically and purge.  I am constantly running to the Salvation Army to drop off various donations.  But some stuff I don't want to let go, usually because I still like it, or I think it may come back in style.
I have always regretted that my Mom got rid of all her clothes from when she was younger; looking back at pictures of her, she had some pretty stylish clothes, many of which I would love to wear now.  I know it sounds silly, but I don't want my daughter regretting the same thing when she is older.  There are certain outfits that I may not wear anymore (some of them I have to admit defeat and realize that I am getting too old for them!), but I want the Cat to have a chance at them later.  In order to keep a bunch of stuff for later and not take up space in my closet, organization is key.
I, however, am not very organized.  I wish that wasn't the case, but what are you going to do?!

Now, not all of those options are from Target, but the one that I got, which is that first one, is. I just got it the other day and set it up in my garage. It was SO easy: you just fold it out, pop in a couple of bars, and then place the covering over it. Easy. I'm pretty happy with it; the only drawback is that it doesn't hold up under a whole lot of weight. That was kind of my own fault, though, as I really tried to load it up. But I still really like it; it is a good size, and I love that it is covered to keep the clothes free from dust. Now I just need to get the rest of my life organized, and I'll be just fine. Thank God for Target, right?

Mirror Re-do and Do-over

Around 10 years ago I worked in a home decor boutique and I bought this large mirror.  Originally it was all gold (you know, during the Tuscan craze).  I then painted out a lot of the gold, a Swedish blue but left a bit of the gold.  I really liked this look for a long time but recently decided that I wanted a change.  

 I thought it would be pretty to paint the blue, black.  4 hours later I put my tiny paint brush down and decided that, while it was really pretty, it wasn't going to work in my house.  Has this ever happened to you?  Oh well.

Lesson 1: My original plan was to spray it a glossy white and I must remember that my initial instincts are usually the right ones.   Lesson 2:  If you invest 4 hours of labor in a project don't let that stop you from changing it again if it isn't right.  

Now I just need a fabulous sconce on either side and a sideboard underneath.
