DIY: Alice Apron

You may recall ( because I have beat you over the head with posts on it) Gwenna's past Alice in Wonderland Party?  Well I had this beautiful fabric left over and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it.  My mom makes the most beautiful aprons, so she offered to do it.  It only took her one day and it wasn't made from a pattern!  I am in LOVE with it and so is Gwenna.

I looked for this fabric for you on etsy.com but it doesn't look like it is available anymore.  However, there are quite a few other sweet options here and here and here.
I love how my mom chose the mix of flower patterns (daisies and daffodils) and textures to make this apron fun and unique.  Gwenna really does wear them and I know she will remember them fondly, especially because her grandma made them for her.

Playing "kitchen" in her new apron!

Oh, I found these on etsy.com too and had to show you:

Shabby Apple

Have you been over to the Shabby Apple website lately?  I popped on over for a little Back to School Night outfit inspiration and was happy to see a "Mad Hatter" lookbook.  The pictures are gorgeous, the outfits are lovely, but what really won me over are the names of the outfits.  Names like "I'm Late! I'm Late!" and "Frabjous Day."  If you're a fan of Alice in Wonderland like I am, than this kind of stuff can get you a little giddy.
Navy Lace Dress
Yes, I love the dress, but I also love the little touches throughout the
picture that play into the Alice theme.

Golden Afternoon

Alice
Why, you're nothing but a pack of cards!
See?  Just sweet little nods to Wonderland.

So I do not have time to order any of these beauties before Back to School Night (because as it happens, that is tonight!), but I didn't mind spending a few minutes window shopping!

DIY: Bunny Cake Stand

White rabbit cupcake stand.
I wanted this bunny cake stand from Pottery Barn for my daughter's "Alice in Wonderland" birthday.  This was weeks before Easter.  I thought that if I waited this $50 beauty would go on sale, but it sold out before Easter came.  What was I to do?  I wanted that cake stand!!!

Target had this bunny for $9.  I snagged one to make...

my bunny platter.  My husband cut the ears down flat.  He saw that it was hollow so he found a solution.

He filled a ramekin (used for dip) with epoxy(PL Premium) and leveled it on the bunny ears.  The ramekin allowed for more surface area for the plate to stick to the bunny ears.  Then he attached a plate to the ramekin filled with PL Premium.
After the PL Premium had set (around 2 days)  I spray painted the whole thing with glossy white spray paint made for ceramics.  That made it look like one piece.
All finished and ready for the cake!
For around $13 I have an amazing bunny cake stand that I can re-use for Easter.  I even like it better than the one Pottery Barn sold out of and I saved a lot of money.

Quote of the Week: Impossible Alice

One thing that I believe in- we are going to have a fabulous time at
the birthday party we are going to today, because it is being thrown by my partner
in crime, Rebecca, for her adorable daughter.
The theme is Alice in Wonderland, and I can't wait to see all of the clever details and decorations that
Rebecca has in store.  I will leave those for her to discuss, of course, but to get an idea of some of the  delightful madness that will be present, check out her Alice pinterest board here.  I hope you have a happy Saturday!

Liberty of London, Part 1- Books

Okay.  I was going to do a post on Liberty of London.  Just a general post.  I have a Liberty of London for Target wallet that I love- it's a great floral pattern made out of oil cloth- the Liberty Thorpe print.  Nice and sturdy.  And I thought it would be fun to do a feature on some of their products.  But.  I went to their website and found about a thousand books that I want right now.  So I am going to do this in parts.  And we will start, of course, with books.

London Pocket Companion
This is the first book from Liberty of London  that is now on my (long) list of wants.  Here is a snippet I
stole copied from the Liberty of London website describing the book.

"Who sold Buckingham Palace to an American tourist? Whose head fell off London Bridge into his daughter’s lap? How do you make Big Ben gain two-fifths of a second? Why did John Etherington’s top hat get him arrested in Mayfair in 1797? Which Londoner embalmed his wife and displayed her in a glass cabinet in his front room?"See?  How can you read that and then not want to read the actual book and find out the answers?!
available at Liberty of London UK

The New York Times, 36 Hours: 150 Weekends in the USA & Canada
This travel guide tells you where to go in the USA and Canada, as suggested by
"experienced travelers and accomplished writers."
Yes, please.
Books: A Living History, Martyn Lyons
Quite simply, a history of the evolution and influence of books,
from Sumerian clay tablets to "digi-novels."

An Alphabet of London, Christopher Brown
Looks gorgeous; sounds fun.  'Nough said.
Things I Never Knew About London, Christopher Winn
More interesting info about London.

Tea: An Everyday Indulgence Book
Vintage advice and recipes for, you guessed it, tea.

The Hunting Of The Snark, Lewis Carroll
For you Alice in Wonderland fans out there.

Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
Again, for you Alice fans out there-- a pretty copy of
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
The Wonder Of Whiffling, Adam Jacot de Boinod
Expand your vocabulary and enjoy yourself while doing so!

The Garden In Art, Debra M. Manicoff
200 pages of garden paintings
This is really just a small sampling of what they have available at their website... and these are the ones that are at the top of my list.  All of the books shown are from Liberty of London.  Let us know if you check any out!
