Everything Is Awesome!

Photo: Gift from my sweetie. He said that they match my eyes.
Well, maybe everything isn't awesome.  I do have pink-eye in both eyes and I am still sick!  I so appreciate all your well- wishes and my friend Min who cooked us dinner and dropped it off last night.  I have awesome friends.  What else is awesome?:  I painted my powder room mirror Pantone's Radiant Orchid (yes I was sick but a girl still has to make things pretty even if she looks like the devil) and I love it!  Yesterday my husband brought home an orchid. He knew I wanted one to match my newly painted mirror.  When he gave it to me he said, "it matches your eyes."  That's why I love him.
Yes, everything IS awesome.

DIY Dresser to Vanity

Here it is!  At least all the elements of my powder room are in place.  This is the sweetest spot in my house at the moment and I couldn't be happier to have it.  A big thank you to my amazingly talented and patient husband!
I am so proud of my little dresser tuned sink project!  It is definitely my favorite part of the space.

I would describe the dresser color as Tiffany box blue and it thrills me even more than the real thing could, if you can believe that.
The jewelry hangs over the sink in the form of this sparkly little pendant.  I like how we installed it overlapping the iron mirror so that it reflects the light and doubles it.

dresser: $40 (antique store)
paint: $12 Pantone blue haze
sink: $59 faucetdirect.com available here
pulls: $20 Lowes
faucet: $80 Martha Stewart for Home Depot

Have a wonderful day today...I am off to finish my laundry room with my husband!

The Reality of Renovation

Well folks, I have been showing pretty pictures of powder rooms lately and dreaming about wallpaper and light fixtures and flooring but this is what my powder room and laundry room look like now.

It was supposed to be a matter of demoing tile and taking out the toilet and existing vanity but, surprise surprise, when we took out the vanity there was mold all through the drywall.  So out came all the drywall and the project got bigger and will take longer.  I'm fine with this though, especially because I know we are doing what is best for our family's health.

Ugly, right?!  I'm still really excited about the results to come (not so much the process) and the fact that my husband is so handy.  It will be worth it in the end (I hope).

Inspiration: Powder Rooms

It's Friday!  I'm so so happy.  I'm especially happy because it means that my powder room project will progress.  We are just about ready to demo/redo the powder room and adjoining laundry room.  In the corners of my afternoons this past week I have begun to paint the laundry room cabinets and have purchased new knobs and hinges.
Because I have powder rooms on the brain I thought I would do a little post on a few fabulous little spaces that inspire me!

What sweet little finchy-bird wall paper.  I love birds but know some people don't (Hitchcock's fault).  I especially love the overall light color with little splashes of red, gold, green and blue.  So many lovely colors to play with.

This so glamorous and watery.  Beyond glorious.

I like the affect of this powder room in the evening (when one typically entertains).  It just sparkles.

Can I tell you just how much I love this wallpaper?!  It's just so fresh and pretty.
This is almost exactly what I want to do in my powder room!

Classic but so not boring.

As if the garden continued to grow right through the window into this fresh little space.

What can I say?  This is just gorgeous.  Look at those pearly tiles!  I really love pink right now too.  It is cheery and lush.

Again, I love the look of this powder room in the evening.  I really feel that it is best to do something bold in such a small, rarely-used space.

It is a luxury to feel so unconstrained when decorating.  I don't stress so much about  unconventional or loud decor in a powder room.  What a joy.
We hope all of you are having a marvelous Friday!

Favorite Finds (and a weekend project)

Let me start by saying that I have had a very busy week.  It seems I haven't had a minute to do much at all, so I am very much looking forward to relaxing tonight and this weekend.  I just haven't had a chance to find anything for our typical "Freaky Find Friday" post and I know you are very sad about that.  Instead, just this once, I thought I would show you a few fabulous things I found (and received).  I really wanted this mirror for my mantle, but didn't buy it.  You know how it goes:  "I really shouldn't get it because It really isn't necessary this month to spend money on frivolity..."  My sweet husband decided to surprise me with it for Valentine's Day!  It was far better than chocolates.  I love all the colors on the mirror.  It is my whole color palette in my house.  The globe above is something I happened on last weekend.  I was at a local junk shop and I HAD to have this globe.  It is difficult to see in the picture but the base color is a grey-green and it has shades of aqua and turquoise.  I've not seen anything like it and for $12 I couldn't pass it up.

Lori turned me on to these Martha Stewart chalkboard labels $5.99/12 pack available here  when she did a previous DIY post {view here}  Last weekend I decided that my kitchen canisters needed these awesome labels too.  So what project do I have in store for this weekend???
Well, after I do this tonight...
And this Saturday morning...

I plan to continue to work on this...
Here is the little project I have been dreaming about for awhile:  I found this little dresser for $40 and painted it this blue-grey and then added hardware (the top knobs are now added too).  I intend to make this into my powder room vanity, with the addition of a sink and faucet--of course.
I saw this travertine tile and fell in love.  It doesn't show up much in the picture but there is a lot of blue in it. Maybe, if I am very good, I will get to have this through my powder room and adjoining laundry room.  I also have a little wallpapering to do...I'll keep you posted!

What are you doing this weekend?
