All You Need Is Love

I was looking for a little Valentine inspiration and stumbled upon this Bridal Party Photo Shoot styled by charlie juliet and HANALULUCO.CO with tons of ideas I can adapt for my own purposes.  I like the black, white and pink color palette as opposed to the red and pink traditional colors for Valentine's day.

The hot pink candles, black and white table runner and vases of flowers are totally copy-cat-able!

Sweet balloon backdrop.

What a cake!  I love the little heart on the bottom.
Awww!
I can see doing something like this for my girl friends or taking bits of it and adapting it for my kids.  Either way, I'm inspired thanks to this great blog 100layercake.com.

My dad had knee replacement surgery yesterday and he is doing pretty well so far.  My son has a stomach bug, and so does Mr. Chips (our doggy).  I'm still struggling with a bad cold and, apparently, an eye infection (eww) and my daughter is still up nights with a residual cough.  Goodness.  It's all about taking care of one another these days and, what is Valentine's Day all about anyway!  I hope we are all feeling better in time to enjoy some treats.

Waterlogue

Over the weekend, after seeing the Lego movie with the Cat and my nephew and his friends, my daughter got invited to go to the movies with a group of her friends.  These are all little girls I like and have known for a while (some are even former students), so I decided to bite the bullet and let her go.  To the movies.  By herself.  Without me.  I dropped her off, but stayed close, as we weren't sure if she was going to get a ride from one of the moms or if I'd be getting her.  Long story short, I decided to pick her up, and texted her and told her as much.  As we were making plans, my phone died.  It got really hot and then it shut off.  It would not turn back on.  This was the worst possible moment for something like that to happen, as my baby was out there, all alone in the world, and I couldn't call her to make sure she was ok.  I rushed over to the theater and went inside so I could be there as soon as the movie got out.
When that fiasco was over and she was safely seat belted and locked into the passenger seat beside me, we headed over to the Verizon store, where I debated about getting the iphone.  I may lose you here, but I am not an Apple person.  My daughter most definitely is; she loves her iphone and she really wanted me to get one too.  But I didn't.  I went instead with the Samsung Galaxy, which I am liking so far.  No regrets on passing up the iphone.
Until I saw this app, which is available for the iphone or ipad only.  (O Cruel World, why do you taunt me so?)

It is called Waterlogue, and it turns your photos into mini watercoloresque pieces of art.  I know there are other programs and apps like that out there, but the transformation of some of the photos they show is just stunning.

Okay, confession: I may or may not have just had the Cat download this app onto her phone.  It takes a little while for the photo to be converted, but hey, great art takes time, right?!

This was a pic the Cat had on her phone (she found it on instagram)
I think it's a fun little app to mess around with for $3.  I've still got to figure out what kind of picture will work best, as a couple of the others I tried looked like the watercolor had too much water in it.
I hope your Monday is off to a fantastic start!  I'm hoping this week will fly by so I can give out my Valentine cards and presents!

A Girly Girl Moment

Lovely coat
I'm loving everything girly and pretty right now.  By everything I don't mean all over my home and in my closet, I just mean that I'm inspired to have a few spots in my house that remind me what fun it is to be a woman.  A bouquet of pink blooms on my dressing table, a floral oil painting on my desk and a few floral items in my closet are sure to banish the gloomy late winter days.  I would go as far as to add a watercolor floral drape in my bedroom or a pretty pattern on throw pillows.  Ok, maybe I need a bit more "pretty" than I originally thought!

Flat weave Frontier rug in black and white stripes really lets this hot pink wingback chair POP! (FT-295)

Bright and Cheery

Today's post is going to be short and sweet.  Tuesday after reading club with my 5th graders I rushed home, thanks to food poisoning brought on by some Olive Garden that I'd had for lunch.  I'm feeling much better now, minus the massive headache that comes from being dehydrated.
Anyway, today I thought I'd share with you just one happy, bright, cheery image that I first saw over on Pinterest and then on This Little Street.

I just adore that pink table. I think it may be an Ikea hack. Hope your week is going well; I am looking forward to the weekend more than I can say!

Blue and White for Spring 2014

Yesterday I was lucky enough to enjoy a spa day with a group of friends.  This was a new experience for me.  Maybe I am too relaxed now because it is almost 9 am and I'm still not moving.  In my defense, I had a crummy night: both kiddos had bad dreams and ended up in bed with us and my daughter woke up with a temperature in the morning.  Well, yesterday was great.  After our spa time we shopped a bit and I was struck by all the gorgeous blue and white in the stores.  Here are a few of the fabulous things I saw.

What I Want: Zara

Loving these pieces from Zara's spring and summer collections! I could mix and match these babies with pieces I already own and be pretty set for spring.
Bahhh- who am I kidding?  I could never only buy 7 pieces for spring, but these would be a really great start!

Zooey and Tommy Spring 2014

fashiongonerogue.com
When I got this month's Lucky magazine I was struck by the gorgeous Zooey Deschanel.  I have long loved her fearless style and I am so excited that she and designer Tommy Hilfiger have announced an upcoming collaborative capsule collection of 16 dresses sold in Macy's stores.  The dresses will have a mod and/ or nautical vibe consistent with Deschanel's love of vintage.  This all sounds great to me!  Oh, and the dresses will range from $96 to $199.  Even better.
What do you think?  Will you be running out to Macy's soon?
