Color Inspiration: Shades of Blackberry

pinterest
When I think of the best crossover inspiration from summer to fall, I think of blackberries.  They are gorgeous and in season right now but their color foreshadows the changing season.  The color is beautifully dramatic and a bit old world.

I will definitely be incorporating this rich shade into my life now with blackberry nail polish and a few accents for my home.
What do you think?  Are you loving it?

Brushstroke Midi: Splurge Vs Steal

I am loving the look of midi skirts, and I am actively hunting for the perfect one to add to my wardrobe. I found one I love at Country Road for $199.99, which is a little out of my price range, to say the least. After a quick search on Forever 21, I found a midi skirt, also called "Brushstroke," which is similar to the Country Road version, but is a fraction of the price.

I love the splurge, but would definitely settle for the steal! Especially if I styled it with a crisp white button down. I hope your week is off to a great start!

House Tour: 2014 Palmetto Bluff House by Suzanne Kasler

SLideahouse_2014_2
Lori and I have feature many beautiful houses on this blog but I think this one is going to be a favorite.  I came across this interview with designer Suzanne Kasler by the wonderful people over at how to decorate, a blog for Ballard Designs.  I'm sure you are aware that Kasler is a celebrity designer for the company.  She is well known for her use of sunburst mirrors and her quatrefoil chair design in many the light and bright spaces.  This house was an "idea" house as oppose to a show home where a designer is responsible for a single room.  Together with architect Ken Pursley, they created a cohesively light filled interior and jaw-dropping exterior spaces in the beautiful Carolina Lowcountry.

I hope your Monday is shaping up nicely.  I have a long list of things to do today and I can't wait to start crossing things off.

The Elephant in the Room

I can't believe it. Summer vacation is officially over, and I am officially back in the classroom with 30 new students.  4 didn't show up, but we'll see what happens when parents realize summer vacation just isn't as long as it used to be!  So the night before school started, the Cat and I went to the mall to get a first day outfit for her to wear, and I picked up this beautiful scarf for her from Tilly's.
Paisley Elephant scarf, on sale for $4!
Currently the Cat has a thing for elephants, so when I spotted this scarf for $4, I couldn't pass it up.  When you are wearing it, it just looks like a paisley pattern, but when you look closely, you can tell that it's actually more than just paisley.
Close up of print on scarf.
Of course, now that she's in to elephants, I've been seeing them everywhere.  To get all of this stuff would be absolute overload, but in the right settings, any of these things would be cute additions to your home!

Let's start with this Hygge & West wallpaper designed by Rifle Paper Co.  I mean, come on, how adorable is this?!
And how about this ridiculously cute hamper?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  Our plans include pedicures and a shopping trip in LA.  What are you up to?  Any exciting plans?

Summer and Sunflower Season

Sunflowers are the quintessential end-of-summer accent.  The warmth and casual elegance of these blooms bring to mind Vincent Van Gogh and the hot, carefree days of childhood.  They grow wild along the roadside here in the desert but they are inexpensive, so I buy in bulk at the local farmer's market or grocery store.  I promise they will bring a smile to your face.

I love the color palette of a sunflower. gorgeous picture.

Today my kids start back to school!  They are in the 4th and 1st grades.  I think I will buy more sunflowers to console myself ...and celebrate.

International Arrivals

Since my kiddos go back to school Thursday, I have been stocking up on cool and cheeky supplies that make the prospect of school a bit more appealing.  I was recently at the Fashion Valley mall in San Diego and dropped by papyrus.  I bought some very fun pencils by International Arrivals.

I hope these fun little finds make there way into the pencil box of a special child in your life because they must be shared!
