Outfit of the Day- Miss Mary Mack

Yesterday was my baby's birthday.    I can't believe how quickly time goes by.  We did a family dinner at my parents' house, with the meal of her choice made by her Mimi.  She has always wanted a "fondant cake" as she calls it (though my nephew calls them "fon-don't" cakes since he prefers frosting).  And this year she asked for an Adventure Time cake.

The Cat was so happy when she saw this.  One of my co-teacher's daughter is an extremely talented baker, and she made this cake, complete with Gunther (the penguin), Finn and Jake (of course), and even a hidden snail on the back.  (Thanks, Christine!)

So the weather is back to being cold, and I am back to sweaters.  This is my fisherman sweater that I picked up from Marshall's (before Rebecca was able to snatch it up!).

Wednesday Pinsday

Happy Wednesday!  You know what today is?  That's right, our linkup with The Vintage Apple.  Here are my favorite pins of the week.  I have been inspired by the warmer weather lately.  Here, there are already blossoms on the trees and I have been thinking about landscape and outdoor prettiness.  These are the images that have been inspiring me!

Outfit of the Day: How About a Little Leopard?

We have been having a little bit of warmer weather here and there, so skirts and dresses have been back on the menu.  I'm keeping it winter-esque with the fabrics- a wool skirt paired with my camel sweater that I wore with rolled jeans here.

I like the little bit of interest that the leopard print belt adds, and the navy pumps are a great neutral.  Plus  my classroom is clear across campus, across a playground full of blue chips and gravelly dirt, so comfortable, easy to walk in shoes are a must.
I love this skirt because it has pockets.  I love me some pockets in a skirt or dress.

Monday After A DIY Weekend

All weekend I have been painting.  I never thought I'd say this, but I need a break from it.  I went back and forth between painting fence boards for my fabulous new back gate, to spray painting mason jars!  I'm not complaining; I loved every minute of it--except when the wind picked up yesterday afternoon:)  Like I said, I finally have a back gate now that separates our backyard with our back property.  The neighbors might have raised an eyebrow over my color choice, but none of them are too close that they would have to see it too near their own yards.  I, of course, think it is awesome because it is so very brown around here and people are so afraid of bold color where I live.  I find it refreshing.

The next little DIY I completed has to do with my daughter's 5th birthday in June.  We are giving her a pony party.  I want it to feel country but not westerny so I chose a color scheme of lavender, yellow and jade green.  Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find those colors together??!  It is proving to be a challenge to do anything girly without pink in it somewhere.  I am starting early so that means I can make most things myself (and with the help of my amazing mom).  These mason jars are the first things I have done so far.  I just spray-painted them using Krylon's Pistachio spray paint.  I sprayed the outsides because they will have water inside with flowers for the party.  I intend to hang some from the trees in the back yard too.
Anyway, I think they turned out fantastic.  I plan to use a few chalkboard labels on some and write "5" on them to personalize them even more for the party.  Later I can give them as gifts.  I know I will  use them at other times myself as well.  They are just so pretty!
Happy Monday everyone!  I will be recuperating with my girlfriends tonight at BJ's after I go get my hair trimmed.  A hard working girl still needs to look her best!

Sweet Spot Sunday

I thought I'd share a sweet spot for you today.

How much do you love this space?  It was featured in Rue Magazine's January/February 2011 issue, but I found it over on Fieldstone Hill Design's blog.
I love this room.  I love the velvet wall-to-wall couch.  I love the gallery wall (of course)!  And I love the giraffe.  I want the giraffe.  I've been looking for pieces (especially white pieces) for my living room, to pop against the blue walls.
In the meantime, I will keep hunting for the perfect pieces.  I hope you enjoy your Sunday!

Outfit of the Day: Venetian

I hope everyone's weekends are starting off right!  My wonderful husband took Friday off so that he could take my car in to be repaired (I was backed into at the mall a few months back).  Am I lucky or what?  I mean that my husband takes care of me, not that I got hit.  Anyway, I am looking forward to watching my son's basketball game today and I am really enjoying this wonderful weather we are having.  It is in the 70's here!  In honor of the awesome temps I thought I would do a fair-weather outfit for today.

Ah, Venice.  I would love to visit Venice, Italy and Greece.  Those places are at the top of my list.  For now I will have to settle for a cute skirt with a Venetian print scene.  Throw on a necklace with Roman coins and a rock crystal bracelet (actually it is also a necklace but it is too heavy and hits my collar-bone) and a whimsical summer outfit is born.

High Five for Friday

Hooray for Friday!  This week flew by pretty quickly.  As in so quickly, I can't believe it is Friday already.  Last night after karate class I kept wishing people a good "rest of the week" and it took a few weird looks from my fellow classmates before I realized that there really isn't a "rest of the week."  And that I still needed to finish up my post for today.
So, a while back I came across Lauren and her blog From my Grey Desk.  She does a fun link up called "High Five for Friday" that I liked immediately, so I thought that I'd give that a try instead of our usual Freaky Find Friday.
Here are my five favorite things from this week.

1.

2,

3.
4.

1.  When we were down in LA, getting ready to go into Jet Rag Vintage, we hopped out of the car and saw this spray painted on the building next to the thrift store.  The Cat and I immediately liked it. There was also a great piece about supporting our troops when they're overseas and when they come home.
2. The Cat's turning the big 1-2 next week, and this pic of us when she was still practically a baby is one of my favorites.  I love how stoic she looks, with her hand on my neck like that.  She's definitely my best girl!
3. The Cat's boss new kicks.  (Sorry- ever since I read the book Maniac Magee to my 5th graders, I can't help but referring to tennis shoes like that!)
4. This week (and every other week!), I am loving my friend Kim's amazing photography skills.  She is so talented!  She's shooting our friend Jaime's pregnancy pics this week, and I can't wait to see them!

5.
This video has been blowing up my facebook feed, and rightly so.  I love videos like this- so inspiring and heartwarming.
So those are my five faves of the week!  Big thanks to Lauren at From My Grey Desk!
