What to Wear: Rainy Day Style

image via
We are supposed to be seeing major rain here in the desert (well, major rain for the desert, that is), so boots are definitely in order for today.  This outfit looks perfect for a cold rainy day schedule at school, doesn't it?
Hope your week is going well!  I have to admit that I, along with my students, I'm sure, am counting down the days until Christmas vacation!

What I Want: Plaid Scarf

Moorea Seal, $28
How perfect is this scarf?!  I think it would be great for fall.  I love the idea of adding just a little touch of plaid to an outfit.  For some reason, I equate a nice plaid like this with being all cozy and warm.  I can picture this scarf with a camel color coat and a great pair of brown boots.
Yum.
Happy Halloween to all of you!  Any fantastic weekend plans?   My plans include sleeping on my brand new down pillow top mattress pad cover.  Double yum

Preppy Fall

Smart is sexy. #preppy #college
My favorite fall looks almost always contain a preppy element: a loafer, a peter pan collar under a sweater, a cigarette pant.  They create such classic fall ensembles.

I am a bit obsessed with this look on Karlie Kloss.
The Modern Loafer - Burgundy – Everlane
I really like the color and style of these sleek loafers.
Denim layers
I love a good short sleeve sweater, layered.
Prepfection
Red loafers and polka dots!
Plaid, black skinnies, loafers.
What  do you think?  Do you love a preppy outfit in the fall as much as I do?

Have a beautiful Monday and I hope your workweek starts off on the right foot.

Perfect for Fall

image via Hemingway & Hepburn
Doesn't this look like a perfect outfit to recreate this fall?
I've got the leather pants, the ballet flats...  I'm almost there.
Oh, and by the way, I am going to shamelessly plug a personal project on here right now.
As you may or may not know from reading our blog, I am a 5th grade teacher in California.  I love my job, and I count myself very fortunate indeed that I get to do something that I adore every day.  My school has great families and great kids, but not a lot of money; we are classified as high poverty. In my classroom, I have one computer for my 32 kids to share.  I wrote a grant through Donors Choose to get two tablets for my classroom.  Among the multitude of projects I have planned for my students, one that I am very excited about is our classroom blog.  I have 3 News Reporters who write blog posts one time a week, and every student is responsible for guest posting throughout the quarter.
If you would like to help me bring my love of writing and blogging to my kiddos, then I've pasted the link to my project: Teaching With Technology: Blogging in the Classroom.  And bonus- if you enter the code INSPIRE, then Donors Choose will match any donation dollar for dollar!
Thanks in advance (even just for reading that little novella right there) and wish me luck!

I hope your week is going well!

What I Want: Madewell

Madewell

I'm loving these two dresses from Madewell; don't they just scream fall? I can see pairing them with bare legs and booties now and leggings and boots when the weather finally cools down. I hope you are enjoying your Monday. Happy Labor Day to those of you who get to celebrate!

Fashion Finds: Mango

Last week I posted this outfit that Rebecca found somewhere online.  I love this outfit, and I want to recreate it once fall comes.  And now, thanks to a weekend trip to Santa Monica, I found some pants that are pretty similar and will help me recreate the look.  And bonus- they'r on sale at Mango right now!

Mango, $34.99
I think either pair would help me recreate the look.

Another picture I posted last week was of this Missoni coat.  I adore this look, as well, and again, I found a similar look (on sale!) at Mango.

Granted, the inspiration picture has a coat, and these are dresses, but the style is similar.  I almost snatched one of these up on Sunday, but I decided that it would be just too short for work.  I do adore the dresses, though, and I love the price tag too!
Hope your Tuesday is going well!

Outfit of the Day: Featuring the Coco Scarf

A little while ago we were contacted by London based lifestyle store Surfdome to partner with them and review a product.  Considering they have over 900 in store brands, it wasn't the easiest choice to make, which product to review, I mean.
We settled on a fabulous scarf that we thought would be perfect for fall, that we could both style, and that we could share.

Since this lovely scarf had some beautiful colors already, I thought I would keep my outfit pretty neutral.  White jeans, beige sweater and light brown cardigan are perfectly cozy.  Also, the lighter palette transition from Summer to Autumn.
scarf: Quicksilver, c/o Surfdome
jeans: Forever 21
cardigan: Target
sweater: Marshals
boots: Lucky Brand

I like how the scarf adds some color and interest to an otherwise kind of plain outfit.  And the feathers on the scarf- the colors- they are perfect for fall and pair really well with my turquoise necklace turned bracelet!

scarf- Quicksilver, c/o Surfdome
jeans- Guess, Macy's
sweater- Target
boots- Steve Madden, Marshall's
bracelet- gift
purse- thrifted

I decided to pair the scarf with a more relaxed look that's perfect for the weekend.  I am loving these boots that I first found in Colorado over the summer but picked up in California.  They are so easy to throw on and they're perfect for running around in.
So that is how we both styled our pretty little scarf.  The only problem- there is only one scarf!
We might have to work on the "sharing" part.

It was great working with Surfdome; considering they are shipping (free shipping on all orders, by the way!) from overseas, the scarf arrived in record time and is even more beautiful in person than it is on the site.  And from what I can tell, there are only three left of this particular style, so you'd better jump on over there if you want to snatch one up for yourself!
If it does sell out, there are plenty others to choose from (they have 391 scarves in stock).  Here are a couple more of our favorites.

Doesn't this look so cozy for fall?!

If you're not in the market for a scarf, they've got quite a few other pieces that are perfect for the transition into fall and beyond.

Those are two of our favorite pieces from surfdome.com's collection for fall.  How great is that jacket?  And the tassels on those loafers make us giddy.

Back to School in Style

Like Rebecca, I am a fan of collegiate style.  Classic stripes and a gorgeous plaid get me giddy.  That's why I love seeing the fall ads for Tommy Hilfiger.  I've talked about Hilfiger before; I love the ads.

Back to School

I love the idea of a denim pencil skirt for work; I think it screams versatility. It can be paired with so many different colors and styles. I just received the Banana Republic navy pencil skirt and wore it the other day (I ordered the wrong size), but I'm thinking I could use another pencil skirt in my wardrobe for fall. The looks above, when worn separately and mixed and matched, just scream back to school to me. What do you think?!

Mini Monday

Cold weather is supposed to be rolling in at any time now, and I have found some gorgeous coats for the little one in your life.

Monsoon Girls' Coats

For a very long time, Monsoon did not ship to the U.S.  Now they do.  It may be just another chain store in the U.K., but along with its sister store, Accessorize, it was one of the Cat's and my favorite stores to hop into.  It didn't matter where we were.  And it's because of coats like these; especially, you guessed it- that middle one.  I love the color orange, and I think bright pop of color like that is so fun for fall.

And just in case you want more choices, here are some more cute choices from one of our other favorites, Zara.

Outfit of the Day: Vintage and Vested

I

I have had this vest in my closet for years.  Years and years and years.  I love it, but could never quite find the right thing to pair it with.  It has a little bit of a steampunk feel to it, which I love, but which makes it hard to pair with tops.  I wore it before with a cream blouse; the top isn't hard to match up, but finding bottoms that work well with it too is a little tough.
And then Rebecca called me up with a skirt that she had found at a local thrift store.  The skirts (she got a similar style for herself) came from Universal Studios (ahh, the perks of living near L.A.).  It's always fun to think about what movies or t.v. shows pieces like these came from.
