She's Having a Baby

The title of this post reminds me of the 80's Kevin Bacon movie of the same name. I've never actually seen that movie, but I figure it fits in well with the gorgeousness that I am bringing to you today.
House of Mia, Everyday Quilt, $95

How perfect is this baby blanket/quilt from House of Mia?  I'm in love. Navy blue, stripes, arrows, hot air balloons?  What did this girl do, look inside my brain and pull out some of my very favorite things?!  I think that quilt would look fantastic in the nursery picture below.  Just saying.
It's a good thing I know some pregnant people, or I would want to buy that quilt for myself, even without a baby...

I'm off to my cousin's baby shower this weekend, and then I will be enjoying that extra day off on Monday.  How about you- any plans for the three day stretch?

Designer Profile: Timothy Whealon

What do I like about designer Timothy Whealon?  Well, I guess the question should be: what's not to like?  Besides the fact that the man is adorable, he also studied English Literature (which, on it's own causes me to like him) and Art History before he became a designer.  It is obvious that he is rooted in the traditional Swedish design--my personal favorite as well.  These are actually "pretty" spaces which is refreshing coming from a man.  I love that.  In  this post, I included a mix of my favorite rooms of his from different homes and design projects.  Take a look.

Check out more of his lovely spaces on his website here.

Below is a recent project of Whealon's; a home located on Long Island.  It is so dreamy!  I got these images from the wonderful blog Splendid Sass.

Are you swooning yet?
Have a wonderful day, friends!

Foxy DIY

I'm a big fan of foxes.  (This love predates the moment foxes are/were having, so the fact that they are everywhere is kind of bittersweet.  That might be a little hipster-esque of me, but I don't care!) The Cat is a fan too.  We have them kind of throughout the house... drawn in closets, pictures on the wall, etc., so it was only natural that I fell in a little bit of love with the line of bar ware and accent pieces that Target introduced last year.  You know the one... with the fox tray and little fox figurines?

Well, I got two of the fox figurines.  (Then my sister got me three more for Christmas- she found them on clearance for less than $3 each!  And she got me the tray.)  I knew I wanted to do something to the figurines, to tweak them.  Now, don't get me wrong; I liked the little faux wood foxiness they had going on.
But I have so damn many of them now (I think my total of that little guy is at three!) that I knew I could take a chance and change him up.  I decided to go for the gold.
Liquid gold, that is.  (Har har.)

I was really surprised by how easily the liquid gold leaf went on.

So there you have it.  An easy way to glam up your Target fox.  I've got a few more of these guys to play around with, so I think they're pretty much all getting a makeover of some sort!

Inspiration: White Winter Flower Arrangements

Blooms in Season: December | Sacramento Street
I'm a bit of a fanatic about having fresh flowers in my house.  They aren't very expensive; just bunches from the grocery store that I like to arrange at home.  During winter I especially crave flowers in my home for the obvious reason that it is so barren out of doors.

I'm really inspired by the last image of bunches and bunches of white lilies in a simple glass container.  Perfect.

Hello, Jack

I have really been hit with the "I-want-my-house-to-be-fully-decorated-NOW" bug.  I can't seem to stay focused on one room, either.  With the help of Rebecca and her Superman, my house has come so far much quicker than if I were to be doing it alone.  We've been here for almost 5 years (yikes!) and it seems like more has been done in the past 6 months, thanks to Rebecca, than in the whole time we've been here.  Now, that's not really true, but she has been so instrumental in helping me find and update my house style.
The first room in my house that I had fully finished decorating was my den/office.  It has pieces in it that I adore, including my little library of books, my favorite ever table, a gorgeous chandelier that I love, and a vintage trunk that I snagged at an antique store in Newport.  I love this room, but I'm feeling like it, too, needs a change.  What I can't decide, though, is if I should re-haul it, with new paint and a new look, or if I should just add to it.  Do I want bright, airy, and glam, or do I want more old English, collected, and classic?  I can't decide.
I am loving this Union Jack rug, though, that I first saw on Joss & Main and then found again on Rugs USA.

Union Jack Rug

Now, I'm sure poor Rebecca is probably cringing as she reads this and thinking something along the lines of  "Get a Union Jack throw pillow, you fool!  Less is more!  Less is more!"  But I can't help it.  I kind of love the thought of this under my desk, if I decide to go in the opposite direction of glam/chic.  Of course, I will ultimately go in whatever direction Rebecca (if she's still willing to help me!) steers me in, as she seems to know what I really want before I even do.  She's that good, people.
It also doesn't help my case that I can't seem to find a single space in which a huge Union Jack rug actually looks good in, though I am certain it exists.  Somewhere.  Besides in my deluded brain.

Art With A Heart

perfect gallery wall
pinterest
There are many things to love about a gallery wall: they are interesting and attractive and they are the solution to that big blank wall in your home.  There is something more to consider, though.  The art on your walls aren't there only to be beautiful but meaningful.  I am not one to keep everything of sentimental value.  It isn't that I'm not sentimental, it's just that I don't care for things that I will never look at or appreciate and are packed away in boxes.  Gallery walls are the perfect solution.  Lori is a key example to illustrate what I mean.  On her beautiful wall in her formal living room she has framed art that her grandmother drew; also some by her daughter when she was very young.  Not only do they look really great up there, but every time she looks at them they will make her smile and think of the people she loves.  I like to buy limited addition art from local artists when I travel as souvenirs, that way I can be reminded of my journey when I see it on my wall. Use shadow boxes for the things that can't be framed for extra dimensional impact.  I also find that a good gallery wall has to develop--yes, there will be a few extra holes in the wall, but moving things around now and again is a must.
I hope you are enjoying your day.  I know it's freezing cold in many places but here it has been quite warm.  This morning I was up early with my husband helping him burn tumble weeds on our back property.  It's the start of a productive day.
Enjoy your weekend!

Time for Tea

I'm loving these bold tea cups and canisters from Stash Tea.

Time for Tea

I love the colors and the bold, graphic prints. (I guess I'm all about graphic prints this year!)  I love how these would add beauty to the inside of your cabinets, so that when you went to make a cup of tea you'd have something gorgeous to start off with.
I also like the idea of repurposing the cups or the canisters; who says they have to be used solely for drinking or storing tea?!  I think they would make great pencil holders in your home office, or a fun accent for you bathroom counter, to wrangle toothbrushes or makeup brushes.
I've had tea on my mind lately because we are heading back to school Monday (boo!) and I want to give the kids a tea party before we start back.  Who am I kidding, though?  That would require planning, and this vacation, I'm all about slow and steady.
I hope you're all staying warm out there!
